Another “Nice” Day…

Today was a day for exploring the inland area, so I wandered up into the neighborhood called Cimiez. There in the hills above Nice one finds beautiful mansions interspersed with large multistory apartments. Three significant museums are also located there: The Archeological Museum, Matisse Museum, and the Marc Chagall National Museum. This last I visited and enjoyed thoroughly (photos are in Gallery). But, first, I had lunch in the garden, surrounded by olive trees, a true sign I was in Provence. The Greek Salad was delicious. However, it made me think about how differently the French view food. Basically, it’s Eater Beware. My salad was filled with little Niçoise olives…with pits. Every bite forced me to be careful not to break a tooth. Similarly fish is usually served with bones, and, usually, grapes with seeds. These differences, though, are what make it so interesting to visit other cultures!
